The year 2020 has been………………………(fill in the blank). It has been tough, unique, unexpected, good, great , indifferent. It will probably be difficult to summarize it in one word. It is around this time that we are either celebrating the year's accomplishments and wins, going over gaps and losses, and already putting in plans to ensure that the next year is better.
What this year taught most of us is that there is no ''certainty'' in the word ''certainty''. We can be tempted to continue talking about the year 2020 that was.............................. But the LORD says,
“Do not cling to events of the past
or dwell on what happened long ago.
Watch for the new thing I am going to do.
It is happening already—you can see it now!
I will make a road through the wilderness
and give you streams of water there Isaiah 43:18-19
Here is some encouragement. Don't be quick to dismiss the year 2020. Don't be quick to discount what never took place, or what did take place. Yes the pandemic is real, Yes it stopped us from doing many things, Yes we suffered loss, but it also created unique opportunities.
No matter what we say about this past year, the Lord says;
Do not cling to, or dwell on events of the past, and what has already happened. There is the danger of pride, arrogance, and self-reliance creeping in or the opposite which would be depression, anxiety, and fear. Whichever end of the spectrum our definition of the year lies on, the Lord says to forget about what has happened. Obsessing on the past can cause us to either
Obsessing over the past can cause us to either;
Forget that it was HIS POWER within us that made us overcomers, or FOREGO HIS POWER within us to become overcomers. In this case, we will be always in a state of misalignment in Him. Instead of dwelling on the past, He tells us to watch. Watch for the new thing that He is already doing, the new thing that is already happening, and the new thing that we can see now. For us to be in a watchful position, means that we are calm, we are being still, we are in the present and we are expectant, we are not dwelling on things of the past.
Whichever word used to describe 2020 is not a true reflection of God's power
God is not limited; His plans never fail; He never changes; His kingdom is eternal; He does as He pleases and no one and no thing- not even a pandemic can stop Him! Be encouraged- Watch for the new thing! Something new has already began in you, in your family, in your business, in your work-space, in your ministry in your community - Watch for the new thing! He will make a way, He will provide, He will revive, He will restore - Watch for the new thing!
It is happening already - you can see it now!
It is happening already - you can see it now!
As we come to the close of the year, I pray that;
You shall be in His presence because He is Ever-Present,
You shall be at peace because He is the Prince of Peace,
You shall drink from His cup because He is the Living Water,
You shall be watching, with open hearts, open minds, and open eyes to see the new things that He is already doing!
Wishing You All A Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year
