Coach. Practitioner. The person you call when you know something needs to change but are not yet sure what.

Pursuit by Design works with mid-career professionals navigating a season of transition, and with organisations that want a more honest conversation about how their people are actually showing up.

Samantha Orchardson Matumo, founder and coach at Pursuit by Design

Samantha Orchardson-Matumo

After twelve years in corporate and four years building a business of my own, I found myself sitting at a dining room table trying to figure out what to do next. No income. No clear path. A professional life that needed to start over.

What pulled me out of that period was not a plan. It was other people. I started showing up for others, listening, helping where I could, and somewhere in that process I discovered something I had not expected: I was good at it, and it mattered.

A family member said something that stayed with me. 'You are good at listening to people and helping them with what they are going through. You could do that professionally, without needing to have all the answers.' I signed up for coach training in 2017 without fully knowing what I was walking into. I was accredited by the International Coaching Federation in 2024.

What I kept hearing from clients, across different backgrounds and different problems, was the same thing. I do not know where to start. I do not know what to focus on. It feels overwhelming. People with real ability and genuine ideas, but without the structure to bring them to life consistently. That is what led me to the Choose to Win framework: a way to work on the seven areas of life that determine whether someone's intentions actually turn into results.

I enjoy seeing people move. Not in the motivational-poster sense. In the practical, specific, this-is-different-from-three-months-ago sense. Doing this work keeps teaching me about myself, and I bring what I learn into every engagement.

What I do

I work with professionals, primarily in the second half of their careers, who are at a crossroads. Sometimes that is a role that no longer fits. Sometimes it is a confidence that has quietly eroded. Sometimes it is the uncomfortable sense that the version of success they have been building towards is not actually theirs. I help them get clear on what they want, build the discipline to pursue it, and develop the leadership qualities that make it sustainable.

I also deliver leadership development programmes for organisations across Kenya and the region. I am a certified facilitator and delivery partner for Inspired Leadership and Ziglar, and I bring Lumina psychometric tools into both individual and team work.
